OnePlus 3 price and release date

CNET en Espanol got an exclusive interview with OnePlus Co-founder Carl Pei. While he didn't disclose any details about the design of the OnePlus 3, Mr Pei did disclose an estimated launch date; the end of the second quarter of 2016.
There's no information on the OnePlus 3 price yet, but we would expect it to offer similarly good value to its predecessors.

OnePlus 3 design

Some early conceptual renders of the OnePlus 3 design were leaked in December 2015. They leave much to the imagination, but it would appear that the company has discarded its trademark sandstone black back in favor of black brushed steel. What the sheer white face on the left-hand render below means is anyone's guess.

The renders do clearly show that the fingerprint scanner no longer sits at the base of the front of the device, leading to speculation over how the company plans for the new device to be unlocked. It's possible that it could employ iris-recognition technology or even an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor embedded below the screen.

Excitingly, front-facing speakers can clearly be seen below the screen.
Earlier, in December, a concept video leaked showing the possible design of the OnePlus 3. It gives us a glimpse of slick, curvy device with extremely thin bezels. The video further hints that the OnePlus 3 might go with a brushed metal back, and we can also see a dual-tone LED flash and USB Type-C charging.

On February 19, the first purported real-life image of the OnePlus 3 leaked. It appears more like a dummy unit, but it bears some similarities to the concept video above, although the bezels are thicker, there are fewer cuts and curves in the design, and a very different UI from previous OnePlus devices. It's still early days for the OnePlus 3, so it's probably best not to put too much stock in this image even being legitimate, let alone reflective of the final design.

OnePlus 3 specs

Nothing about the OnePlus 3 specs has been confirmed, although we're hopeful that the new device will use Qualcomm's best chip, the Snapdragon 820. Previous models in the series used the cursed Snapdragon 810, despite its overheating problems, but the new generation chip should solve this issue and allow for better performance.
We'd also expect the new phone to employ a USB type C port, as its predecessor did.
